Captain Screenbreak & The Glow Monster

Written by HAVENSE Studio

In the cozy little town of Cozyville, every child had a magical tablet. These tablets could show anything โ€” cartoons, games, even homework answers (but we don't talk about that part ๐Ÿคซ).

Every family was happy. Or were they? You see, something strange was happening. The screens were getting brighter. And brighter. And BRIGHTER. Until one night...

FLASH! ๐Ÿ’ฅ

A creature made entirely of blue light appeared in the town square. It was tall, shimmery, and had two big, round eyes that looked like loading spinners.

"I am the Glow Monster!" it announced. But its voice was oddly... soft. "And I'm very, very lonely."

The children shrieked and hid behind their tablets. The grown-ups Googled "what to do when a Glow Monster appears" โ€” which wasn't very helpful.

But one kid didn't hide. A regular kid named Jamie put their tablet down on the kitchen table, walked outside, and looked up at the Glow Monster.

"Why are you lonely?" Jamie asked.

The Glow Monster's loading-spinner eyes spun slowly. "I live inside your screens. I see you all through the glass, laughing and playing on your devices. But nobody ever turns the screen off long enough to play with ME. In the REAL world."

Jamie felt something tingle in their fingertips. The moment they'd put the tablet down, something had happened โ€” they felt a burst of energy. A tiny spark of Screenbreak Power.

"Hey everyone!" Jamie shouted to the other kids. "Put your tablets down! Let's play with the Glow Monster โ€” for REAL!"

One by one, the children set their devices on the ground. And with each tablet placed down, Jamie's Screenbreak Power grew stronger. โšก

"Let's play hide-and-seek!" Jamie declared.

The Glow Monster was TERRIBLE at hiding. It GLOWED. It tried hiding behind a tree โ€” everyone could see the blue shimmer. It tried hiding in a bush โ€” the bush lit up like a Christmas tree. Everyone was laughing so hard their bellies hurt. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Then they played tag. The Glow Monster was surprisingly fast, but kept tripping over garden hoses because it had never walked on real grass before.

They built a fort out of couch cushions (the Glow Monster's favorite part). They drew pictures with chalk on the sidewalk. They told jokes that were so bad they were actually good.

And as the sun set over Cozyville, something magical happened.

The Glow Monster started shrinking. Not in a scary way โ€” in a happy way. With every laugh, every game, every moment of real-world play, it got smaller and warmer and cozier.

By bedtime, the Glow Monster had shrunk down into a tiny, friendly nightlight โ€” small enough to hold in your hand, warm enough to keep you safe, and glowing just the right amount.

"Thank you," the little nightlight whispered. "Playing in the real world is SO much better than living inside a screen."

And guess what? That little Glow Monster nightlight is sitting in YOUR room right now. See that tiny light in the corner? That's it โ€” watching over you, keeping you safe.

Time to close your eyes, Captain.
The screens can wait until tomorrow. ๐ŸŒ™
Goodnight.
