The "Non-Cringe" AI Talk Script

Teens usually know more about tech than us. Acknowledging that is the key to opening the door.

Script 1: The "Expert" Approach (Use when they are using a phone)

"Hey, I keep hearing about this ChatGPT thing at work. Are kids at school actually using it, or is the news just overhyping it? I'd love to see how it actually works if you want to show me."

Why it works: You aren't accusing. You are asking for their expertise.

Script 2: The "Deepfake" Detective (Use when watching a video)

"It's getting scary how real AI video looks. I saw a clip of [Celebrity] the other day that I swore was real, but it was fake. Do you have a way of spotting them? What do you look for?"

Why it works: It positions you and them on the same team vs. the confusing internet.

Script 3: The Homework Ethics Chat

"I honestly don't know what the rules are anymore. If you use AI to brainstorm ideas but write the essay yourself, is that cheating? What do your teachers say?"

The Pivot: "My only worry is that if the AI does the pushups for you, you don't get the muscles. How do we make sure you're still learning to write?"

The 3 Golden Rules of AI in this House

1. Transparent: If you use it, just say so.
2. Verification: AI hallucinates (lies). Always check the facts.
3. Humanity: Never use AI to write a text to a friend or an apology to a parent. Relationships must be human.
